How Long Does an Aircraft Wrap Last?

  • Hangared aircraft: ~6–8 years is a realistic target
  • Outdoor tied-down aircraft: ~3–5 years
  • Premium films + excellent install + light use: sometimes 8–10 years

Aircraft are harder on vinyl than cars because of:

  • Higher UV exposure at altitude
  • Fuel spills around caps and cowling
  • More airflow stress at speed
  • Heat cycling on cowling and composite panels

For a composite aircraft like a Cirrus SR20 / Cirrus SR22:

  • Tail and fuselage sides usually age well
  • Wheel cowlings, struts, leading edges, engine cowling are the first areas that may need touch-ups
  • Light blue / white generally hold appearance longer than dark colors because they absorb less heat

Maintenance:

  • Hand wash only
  • Avoid pressure washing edges
  • Clean bugs within a few days
  • Avoid harsh degreasers
  • Keep fuel off wrap when fueling

One big advantage over paint: if branding changes (tail logo, stripes, colors), you can usually re-wrap sections instead of repainting the aircraft
